I currently own Canon's other extension tube, the EF 12 II and use it with the above-mentioned 60mm lens. It does make a bit of a difference in terms of being able to get closer to the smaller subjects, but it sometimes doesn't allow me to fill the entire frame if the subject is quite small. Would the additional 13mm from the EF 25 II offer
Extension Tube EF 25 II. May 21, 2018. I have been out of this hobby for a while, but recently picked up my 7D again and started working on taking pictures for another hobby. My main lens is the EF-S 17-55 and I have found I would like to get in closer to capture more details and different angles.

I am interested in buying a Canon EF-25 Extension Tube. What are the differences between the EF-25 and EF-25 II except the EF-S lens support? The shop that I am planning to buy from, has the EF-25 more expensive than the EF-25 II? Thanks for the advice. RB. The shop that I am planning to buy from, has the EF-25 more expensive than the EF-25 II? Bad shop with old stock still lingering Thanks for the advice. My advice buy a 3rd party set of extension tubes. For the same money a EF-25 costs you get a set of three with 12, 24 and 36mm length for much greater flexibility. RB.
Interesting, I've grabbed the info from Canon's UK site : Magnification - Extension Tube EF12 II 0.6-0.05 Magnification - Extension Tube EF25 II 0.47-0.11. But actually trying it, I get : Frame width, no tube, 250mm, min focus : 64mm = 0.34x Frame width, 13mm tube, 250mm, min focus : 52mm = 0.42x The last image uses a Canon tube (25mm) tube plus all three Kenko tubes (12+20+36mm) combined. This gives something like 2.5:1 magnification, but the overall image quality has dropped quite a lot. Also at this point you are so close that it can be hard to avoid the lens barrel casting a shadow on the subject.
A set of tubes of good quality are costly (Kenko is now $200), and you can get a Tokina 35mm f2.8 macro lens (crop only) for $300 and the Sigma 50f2.8 macro lens for a little more. A longer lens will give you more working distance, and that can be helpful for lighting.
