Mytrusty (independent specialist Volvo) mechanic had warned me of the cost and told me that it might be time to look around as the car still had very decent trade-in value. So I went and looked on Autotrader and noticed a grey S90 D4 Momentum, registered April 2018 with 15,000 miles for £17,000. I had to check again because I could not
Thebest I’ve ever heard is the Bowers & Wilkins system in XC90. I think the Volvo Bower and Wilkins system is the best in any vehicle. Vehicles with Harmon Kardon and Bose are all tied for second, and base model economy box has a pretty bad sound system. The sound system in my Tesla Model 3 Long Range is fantastic.
Thataside, my wife currently has a 98 s70 with 240k miles that runs like a top. My last Volvo was a 92 740 with 400k miles that was running great when I sold it. I had an 89 740 with 250k miles that never missed a beat, til my buddy drove it into 4 feet of water (flooded road), they don't make good boats. But great cars, and easy to work on, yes.
TheRav4 is an excellent choice. A RAV4 is going to be more reliable and cheaper and easier to maintain than an older XC60. No question about that. That said, Consumer Reports has basically always hated Volvos for some reason or
In2020, the Volvo brand was number 16 in the rankings and a high score of 93.8%. For comparison: Ford scored 93.7% and was ranked 18. Volkswagen scored slightly less with 93.2% and a rank of 20. The most reliable car brands were judged to be Lexus at 98.7%, then Mitsubishi at 97.9% and Toyota at 97.7%.
Forfuck sake get a set of decent winter tries, doesn't really matter if your car is AWD or not if you run shity "no season" tires. Volvos AWD system (in the newer cars, 2003/04+) is Haldex AWD systems which are pretty good although it mostly runs in FWD, basically the car engages the rear axel (up to 50/50 split) when it feel like it is needed. Itwas a 900. A V70 is probably fine, but a 900 is arguably even better for a bunch of reasons. farmer66 1985 245, 2015.5 XC70 T6 •. Those are both solid options, my first car was a '98 V70XC. Everybody has their own opinions on the best era of Volvo, that being said, there are some years that are less problematic than other years.
Olderone most definitely newer ones not so much.Probably better than BMW and Audi but worse than Acura and Lexus (obviously) exuberant_mjl • 7 mo. ago. I own a 2013 s60 T5. find out if timing belt has been replaced. If not, budget 800 to 1000 USD for that. Supposed to be changed between 60 and 100k miles. Other than that it's been a great car.
challengebetween volvo and Ford on who has the strongest material! Archived post. New comments cannot be posted and votes cannot be cast. I hit a deer at 70 MPH in my Volvo XC70 last winter. The car absorbed so much energy that I barely felt the impact. Car was totaled (it was a 2010 with 200K miles on it) but I wasn’t even sore. I saw a
VWJetta or Golf. Ford F150. Non-turbo Subaru. Ford Focus (without the PowerShift trans) Nissan Altima (make sure you clap it out and bust up all the body panels /s) Now if you've got bigger budget and your first car is something you're getting because of a new job or new family, this list is likely beneath your expectations.
Nothingin particular is wrong with the Ford-era Volvos. For example, the P1 cars (C30/V50/2nd-gen S40) that share some design elements with the Focus and Mazda 3 are much better than the 1st-gen S40 and V40 (the Mitsubishi Carisma collaboration). Most of the Ford stuff was in the Volvo->Ford direction. .
