In2020, the Volvo brand was number 16 in the rankings and a high score of 93.8%. For comparison: Ford scored 93.7% and was ranked 18. Volkswagen scored slightly less with 93.2% and a rank of 20. The most reliable car brands were judged to be Lexus at 98.7%, then Mitsubishi at 97.9% and Toyota at 97.7%.
Forfuck sake get a set of decent winter tries, doesn't really matter if your car is AWD or not if you run shity "no season" tires. Volvos AWD system (in the newer cars, 2003/04+) is Haldex AWD systems which are pretty good although it mostly runs in FWD, basically the car engages the rear axel (up to 50/50 split) when it feel like it is needed.
Itwas a 900. A V70 is probably fine, but a 900 is arguably even better for a bunch of reasons. farmer66 1985 245, 2015.5 XC70 T6 •. Those are both solid options, my first car was a '98 V70XC. Everybody has their own opinions on the best era of Volvo, that being said, there are some years that are less problematic than other years.
VWJetta or Golf. Ford F150. Non-turbo Subaru. Ford Focus (without the PowerShift trans) Nissan Altima (make sure you clap it out and bust up all the body panels /s) Now if you've got bigger budget and your first car is something you're getting because of a new job or new family, this list is likely beneath your expectations.
Nothingin particular is wrong with the Ford-era Volvos. For example, the P1 cars (C30/V50/2nd-gen S40) that share some design elements with the Focus and Mazda 3 are much better than the 1st-gen S40 and V40 (the Mitsubishi Carisma collaboration). Most of the Ford stuff was in the Volvo->Ford direction.
