2017 Duke 390 owners, talk to me. Eyeballing a 2017 390 Duke. It's brand new at a dealer for $4799 + tax, which seems a decent deal. I've been riding ~10 years, started on CB550's/750s, then did a KLR, Harley 883, and a DRZ400SM. I loved the DRZ, and the KTM feels like all the things I liked about it plus some nice tech and more power. The dealer said this is normal for the 790, at least it is known that more 790 engines have the same sound. Last week at the Zandvoort track (Duke is 2 years and 4 days old with 8400 km) in my second lap I heard a “poof“ sound and the engine went dead. The engine rotates when the starter button is applied but won’t start.
The KTM 790 Duke is generally considered to be a reliable motorcycle. Owners of this model often praise its performance, agility, and overall riding experience. However, like with any mechanical product, there is always a chance of encountering some issues.
There’s no disputing the performance prowess of the KTM 390 platform shared by the Duke, RC, and, more recently, the KTM 390 Adventure, and the current crop of KTM 390s is as reliable as any premium ride. Apart from the overheating problem, other reliability issues that plagued earlier 390 models are minor and easily fixed.
Heaven is Japanese bikes. Reliable but a bit predictable and boring. The outer edges of hell belong to the bigger volume European bikes. Some reliability issues but exciting and a bit naughty (BMW and KTM). A special corner of hell is reserved for exotic European owners (MV, Ducati etc). You get the full workshop experience on a regular basis.
My main worry, however, is RELIABILITY. My concern with both the 890 and SP is both have engine changes this year, and that tends to translate into issues and/or recalls. The 790 came out in 2019, so a 2020 has at least 1 year of production to iron out the unknown issues I was referring to above. Please elaborate all you want . By the way, this
Just bought a 2018 690 Duke and am still breaking it in. Barely hit 50 miles when it started lurching forward and/or stalling when going from neutral to first at a standstill. Clearly the clutch is not working properly. Adjusted the lever travel, very little free play. Checked the clutch fluid, there is plenty.

The KTM 125 Duke has been one of the most striking, entertaining and desirable A1 learner class roadsters ever since its introduction in 2011. A junior, entry-level brother to the Austrian firm’s other 200, 390, 690, 790 and 890 Duke ‘nakeds’, the 125 shares those bikes’ sharp styling, compact design and performance focus but although simple and lightweight, it has quality equipment

Really impressed with the power, the seating postion and how it rode. Didnt get to test out handling due to very wet roads. Enjoyed the reassurance of ABS, TC and slipper cutch.

KTM’s first big motorcycle for India, the 790 Duke, is finally here; but it has been priced higher than most were hoping. Then again, this is a KTM, so game-changing price or not, the 790 Duke .
